This exhibition invites viewers to consider the profound influence of this role on identity, creativity, and connection.Curated by Felicia Fraser and Emiko Mizukami, Maker + Mother celebrates the complexity, vulnerability, and strength found in both caregiving and making.

Felicia Fraser is a Vancouver-based painter and mother of two whose work explores memory, nostalgia, and the meaningful objects of everyday life. Working in oil, she creates intimate scenes drawn from childhood and domestic experience, with a focus on colour, reflection, and small moments that carry emotional weight. She studied graphic design and illustration at Capilano University, bringing a strong sense of composition and visual storytelling to her practice. Her work has been exhibited in galleries across Vancouver, and she has participated in numerous curated group exhibitions. Her daily life as a mother shapes both the rhythm of her studio work and the subjects she chooses to paint. Felicia lives in Vancouver with her family and continues to explore how lived experience, routine, and care inform creative practice.

Emiko Mizukami is a North Vancouver-based painter and mother of two working in oil and acrylic. She creates intimate interior and tabletop scenes filled with books, flowers, vintage treasures, and objects that carry personal meaning. Born in Fukui, Japan, her early connection to Japanese crafts and family traditions taught her to see the quiet beauty and ritual in daily life. Her experience as a mother shapes both her routines and her work, inspiring the focus on domestic spaces, everyday objects, and the rhythms of home. She seeks to capture the small, tender moments that often go unnoticed but hold deep emotional resonance. Her paintings invite viewers into memory, imagination, and the gentle magic of the heart, capturing objects and moments that mark the chapters of our lives. Emiko’s work has been shown in Vancouver and Mexico, and she was a featured muralist for Vancouver Mural Festival 2022.
